How come some Americans don’t understand that the American right is a xenophobic nationalistic menace?

Monday, May 31st, 2010

If you stand back a little and take an objective look, isn’t it quite similar to the composition of facist Italy when they entered World War 2, except that the single dictator is missing?

this assertion stands for both camps. im a lib, and in conversations w/ many (on either side) i hear a bigotry that is there. (it’s political bigotry)

yes, there are racists on the FAR right, and there are extremists on the FAR left.

i find my neighbors and friends quite reasonable as a a rule b/c we have a relationship and see each other as human beings…

some here oughta try it…

Adolf Hitler: Mass Nationalistic Insanity (short version)

Monday, May 31st, 2010

This shorter version highlights the speaking parts of this Nazi propaganda film. Hitler was evoking this kind of sentiment all over Germany prior to his invasion of the Sudetenland, Poland, and the start of WWII. What is interesting is just how insane large groups of humans can be and how their insanity gave Hitler (and his cronies) the sense that they could engage in war with the full backing of the German people.

For more videos examining such insanity, see http://www.yoism.org/?q=node/235 (where you can also download this video). To see Charlie Chaplin’s parody of this rally, go to http://www.yoism.org/?q=node/11

BTW, if you question whether the people you see in the video are truly insane, consider that the majority of the young men and boys in the video enthusiastically followed Hitler into a war in which they died.

Note that in this English version, the video and the subtitles (based on a higher quality Portugeuse version of the video) have been enhanced for clarity.

When is a patriot not a patriot and instead nationalistic or jingoistic?

Friday, May 28th, 2010

When is it Patriotism crosses that line?

This guy knows:

Michael Parenti, from his book "Superpatriotism:

http://www.thirdworldtraveler.com/Parenti/Superpatriotism.html

"Maybe our superpatriots love this country for its history One would doubt it, since so much of US history is evidently unknown to them: the struggle for free speech that has continued from early colonial times down to this day; the fierce fights for collective bargaining and decent work conditions; the long campaigns to extend the franchise to all citizens including propertyless workers and women; the struggles to abolish slavery, end racial segregation, and extend civil rights, to establish free public education, public health services, environmental and consumer protections, and occupational safety, and to impose a progressive income tax and end wars of aggression, and other such issues of peace and social justice."

Since religious and nationalistic holidays are so important, Which holidays will be celebrated in heaven?

Wednesday, May 26th, 2010

Will all of the pagan celebrations be considered ok,because they are fun?
Which countries holiday’s will be celebrated?.
Will there be 50 million birthday parties everyday?
Will all the angels births be celebrated?
Which birthday will Jesus celebrate. Since trinitarians believe he is God, he would have no birth
or would his birth on earth supersede his Godliness?

LOL! Thanks for pointing out how vain and unimportant holidays are to God and those who worship him.

Can a country remain highly nationalistic & patriotic while still globalizing? How do you balance those?

Saturday, May 22nd, 2010

Please give examples to support your answer.

No, the historic origin of countries is the need of customs from Bourgoisies of that countries. It was a way to protect their industry. If there are no customs , there are no countries.

Is anyone else sick of the blatant nationalism and nationalistic propaganda of the Olympics?

Thursday, May 20th, 2010

I can handle the commercialism: it pays the bills. But since the inception of the modern Olympics, international politics has always shown its ugly head.

How about we ALWAYS hold the summer Olympics in Greece, where it was founded, and ALWAYS hold the winter Olympics in Switzerland, which has traditionally tried to be neutral in its affairs with other nations? And leave it at that? Wouldn’t that help halt all the fru-fru and payola, so people could concentrate on the individual athletes who are the real stars?

Fantastic idea – but in reality everyone wants a piece of the money making pie that is the Olympics.

Im sickened by the fact China will not allow any political views by athletes or anyone else involved with the games including media – yet everyone clearly knows its all politically driven as to who gets the games, what is shown etc..

No offence to the americans, but it sux that they have the swimming finals scheduled so its televised in prime time in the USA. This means the swimmers are competing in the mornings which is not traditional for the Olympics. China seem to favor the US veiwer for some reason (obvioulsy political) even though half the world is closer to their time zone! And they forced the swimmers to change training methods to get used to swimming finals in the mornings…

Alleged nationalist assassinated ahead of trial

Monday, May 17th, 2010

A young man of ethnic Caucasus origin has been shot dead in Moscow an hour before he was supposed to be tried in court for a racially motivated attack.
He was one of seven men, allegedly members of a gang dubbed the Black Hawks, accused of a xenophobic assault on two Russians in the Moscow metro last year.

That random knife attack on two students on the Moscow metro has led to claims Russia has its own version of the Black Panthers the notorious gang that fought for black power in the U.S in the 60s.

The lawyer of the group on trial maintains that last year’s crime had nothing to do with race.

I can assure you, that the youths we’re protecting have absolutely nothing to do with this nationalistic group. I call it a myth, which has no confirmation, said lawyer Aga Manafov.

While Thursday’s shooting has many talking of revenge, some say more sinister motives are afoot.

I believe that an organized criminal group was operating in Moscow and that it was funded by some other countries secret services, says Sergey Stashevsky from the First Moscow Lawyers Collegium.

No matter who is responsible, it will do little to calm fears that racially motivated attacks are out of control in Russia. The usual victims are nationals from former Soviet republics and Asian or African foreigners.

In this year alone 42 people have been killed and more than 200 injured in neo-Nazi or racist violence, according to Moscow human rights group Sova.

While the number is down by nearly a half compared to the same time as last year, the concern now is Thursday’s shooting could trigger a dangerous chain reaction.

This is a war, and the aggression will be rising from both sides. I hope that ethnic organizations will try to control the youngsters, at least some of them, said Sova representative Galina Kozhevnikova.

Combating racial hate crimes has become a state priority, but with Thursdays shooting of the defendant, the government will have to do more to make sure cases are settled in court, and not on the streets.

What is the difference between being Patriotic and being Nationalistic?

Sunday, May 16th, 2010

Is there a difference? Can you give examples that will show this?

At school I wasn’t really good at languages, nor with English, Public Speaking, grammar, spelling & the like.

And I normally use words that merely sounds right (inside my head). Differences between many English words can be very subtle and such is the case between ‘patriotic or patriotism’ & ‘nationalistic or nationalism’.

In my head I believe they mean basically the same thing–a love for one’s country. So patriotism is the same as nationalism & nationalism is the same as patriotism, in this sense.

The difference in my mind is that a nationalistic person is more inclined to do something about their love/loyalty/devotion/pride for their country than the patriotic person. A patriot in my mind can say it all the time, even shout it on the mountaintops but at the same time may never lift a finger to do anything "constructive" about it. So the former can be lip-service at times & the later is basically your more or less active partipant.

Do not get me wrong though, a patriotic person would be someone who would march in patriotic rallies, sing patriotic songs, sign patriotic petitions, eat dinuguan, balut, kare-kare & wear red/white & blue (just as a nationalist would) but at the end of the day he could be someone who buys/uses & promotes nothing but imported/foreign/non-local goods & services & cheats or hurts the country in many different ways.

But this is just my personal definition & might not really be the actual dictionary meaning.
