Many Seasons, Much Pleasure in Your Calgary Garden

Calgary Albera is defined by seasons. So are the gardens found in Calgary. Most importantly, if you are a gardener, make the most of each season in your garden.

Most Gardeners and especially in Calgary (I know because I live there)are a passionate breed of people.

Due to the quick blast of spring summer and fall, we only have a small amount of time to enjoy our gardens in Calgary. Because of this, I like to make the most out of the gardening season.

This starts with paying attention to your garden needs and desires during our sometimes long, but mild Calgary winters. Winter is a time for reflection.

On the other hand, Spring is when Calgary Gardens come alive again.

The warm smell of lilacs permeating many Calgary Gardens on a nice spring day is what I look forward to every year. A passing bee loves to stop from flower to flower collecting nectar from a favorite Calgary garden.

It is amazing how a gardener in Calgary can plant only a few plants to achieve vibrancy and vitality.

Your pets suddenly have more energy as you let them outside to play around the garden, on a warm spring day in Calgary.

Spring is truly beautiful.

I am convinced that Mother Winter has one purpose; to allow Gardens Calgary to plan for the next season.

The Calgary Growing season is about four to five months. A common weather incident is Calgary is known as a chinook.

Some people like Chinooks because they keep us from deep freeze temperatures all winter, but for gardeners, this can spell disaster for plants. Plants staying dormant thinking is winter can come out of their shells, let their guard down, only to be hit with the next winter storm, completely vulnerable.

Calgary Chinooks pose another problem for gardens. The wind. Due to the pressure variance associated with Calgary Chinooks, high winds can dry out plants in your gardens.

A popular Calgary Garden plant called the Cedar is one plant that should watched during Calgary winters, to make sure it doesn’t dry out.

After the winter season in Calgary, spring arrives and gardens rejoice with life.

Perennials that have sat silent for months explode with color.

Many trees and shrubs have stood patient all winter so that they may feel the true Calgary sunshine.

As for us gardeners, nature is dear, so we learn to appreciate winter & fall for what they are.

Calgary Gardeners rejoice and have a good winter to relax, reconnect and enjoy planning your garden space for next summer.

Or maybe if it is winter, get some indoor plants and create an indoor Calgary Garden!

Good luck with your offseason efforts!
