Why did the united states support the nationalist party rather than the Communist party during the civil war in China? I’m not quite sure thank you in advance!
The US saw China as a potential extension of Communist Russia, and thus a Communist China would be a factor in the Cold War.
Also, the prevailing American concept of restricting Communism was military ‘containment’ – that is, surrounding Russia with states that would be hostile to the spread of Communism. A Communist China would interfere with this containment policy.

Because the U.S. would lose a strong ally to Russia . Plus , We didn’t defend Communist China in World War II . The Communists were rebels and we supported the legitimate government that had been in China since 1912 . Since the Communists won the war , China has remained split in two . The same would have happened to the United States if the Confederates won the American Civil War . So , when the Communists won , Russia’s influence grew . And then the Communists invaded , stole and are still occupying Tibet which had been independent since 1913 along with Mongolia .

1. The U.S. government is run by big businesses. Business people hate to share, hate communism.
